Why join American Legion Post 663?

The American Legion’s motto is “Veterans Strengthening America.” Post 663 continuously strives to do our part to support this direction. We are involved in many civic and community events throughout the year, some which include:

• Fifth Grade Flag Essay contest in select Urbandale elementary schools – “What does the Flag mean to me?”
• Holiday gift bags delivered to veterans in Urbandale that are homebound, in the Des Moines VA hospital, or area care facilities
• Sponsorship of individuals to a key American Legion program – Boys State
• Assistance with Honor Guard representation as needed/requested
• Partnership with the city of Urbandale in the annual Veterans Day program at the Urbandale Veterans Plaza
• Partnership with community organization “Rebuilding Together” to assist veterans who need home repair
• Participation in the Urbandale July 4^th parade, and the Iowa State Fair Military Day parade
• Provide financial support for the Iowa Military Veterans Band
• Partnership with local VFW for annual Flag Retirement Ceremony
• Partnership with local VFW for quarterly food drives for the Urbandale Food Bank
